My Therapy Style

think about things differently

I use a holistic, trauma-informed approach that honors the connection between mind, body, and lived experience. If you’re feeling anxious, depressed, or simply not like yourself, it’s easy to wonder what’s “normal.” But my goal isn’t to help you fit into a mold — it’s to help you build a life that feels authentic and meaningful.

One of the tools I use is a “parts” approach — similar to the idea behind the movie Inside Out. We all have different parts that show up, especially during stress or emotional overwhelm. Some may be younger or more protective, reacting from past pain rather than the present moment. This is why anxiety can feel so intense — we overestimate danger and underestimate our capacity to handle it.

I also incorporate somatic healing to help clients reconnect with their bodies. Trauma often causes us to numb out or ignore our body’s signals. By gently tuning back in, clients begin to feel safer, more grounded, and more in control of their emotional and physical well-being.

Because we’re wired for connection, I also approach healing through the lens of relationships and attachment. Whether it’s learning to trust again or setting healthier boundaries, I support clients in showing up more fully and authentically — both with others and with themselves.

What Informs My Approach

  • Parts and Memory Therapy (PMT), developed by Jay Noricks, is a trauma-informed approach that helps you understand and heal the different “parts” of yourself—internal voices or patterns shaped by past trauma, emotional pain, or early life experiences. These parts can show up as anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-criticism, or self-sabotage, often creating inner conflict or keeping you stuck. In PMT, we explore the unresolved memories and emotions behind these parts so you can feel more connected, confident, and whole.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy is based on the idea that unconscious thoughts and feelings shape how we think, feel, and act—even if we’re not fully aware of them. In this approach, we look at how your past, especially childhood experiences and unresolved conflicts, influences your current emotions, relationships, and behavior. Originally developed by Sigmund Freud and expanded by other theorists, psychodynamic therapy is a meaningful process of self-discovery. It helps you better understand your inner world, heal old wounds, and make more intentional, empowered choices in your life today.

  • Polyvagal-Informed Therapy helps you understand how your nervous system responds to stress, trauma, and everyday challenges. Based on Dr. Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, this therapy teaches you how subtle cues of safety or danger, often picked up without your awareness, can shape your emotions, behaviors, and relationships. If you frequently feel anxious, overwhelmed, shut down, or stuck in survival mode, polyvagal-informed therapy can help you regulate your nervous system, improve emotional resilience, reconnect with yourself and others, and begin healing from trauma. Whether you’re managing anxiety, panic attacks, emotional dysregulation, or trauma recovery, this therapy offers effective tools for lasting emotional balance and well-being.

  • Somatic Healing focuses on the powerful connection between your mind and body. This approach recognizes that emotions, memories, and trauma often show up as physical sensations like tightness, pain, or tension, even when we’re not fully aware of them. Sometimes, unexplained physical symptoms that doctors can’t easily diagnose or treat may be linked to stored trauma in the body. Somatic healing helps you explore and process these underlying emotional layers, offering relief where traditional medicine may fall short. If you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, or physical discomfort without a clear cause, this therapy can support you in building a stronger mind-body connection, improving emotional regulation, and finding lasting relief.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps you understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. If you tend to get stuck in negative thinking, spiral with anxiety, or fall into patterns that don’t serve you, CBT can give you tools to shift those thought patterns and build healthier habits. With support from your therapist, you'll learn to spot distorted thinking—like catastrophizing or all-or-nothing thinking—and replace it with more balanced, realistic perspectives. CBT is structured, goal-oriented, and often includes take-home strategies so you can apply what you learn in real life. It’s a great fit if you're dealing with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or just want to feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy is a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps you understand and heal the different “parts” of yourself—like the inner critic, the people-pleaser, or the part that numbs out. Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS identifies three key types of parts: managers (who try to keep you in control), firefighters (who react quickly to emotional pain), and exiles (parts that carry deep wounds and vulnerability). IFS therapy helps you build a relationship with these parts from your calm, compassionate core Self. Through IFS, you can build inner harmony, improve emotional regulation, and reconnect with your authentic self.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a powerful, skills-based therapy designed to help you manage intense emotions, build healthier relationships, and reduce self-destructive behaviors. Developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT blends two key ideas: accepting yourself as you are right now while also working toward meaningful change. It focuses on teaching practical tools in four key areas—mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness—so you can feel more in control and balanced in your everyday life. DBT is especially helpful if you experience mood swings, impulsive behavior, self-harm, or frequent conflict in relationships. If traditional therapy hasn’t worked for you, DBT might offer the structured support and real-life tools you’ve been missing.
